Is there a God? And if so: what does He expect of me? (by David Kraai)

The debate on the existence of God rages on, and will undoubtedly do so until the second coming of Jesus Christ. Sadly, our children find themselves immersed in the cacophony of conflicting views and doubt. I cannot sit idly by and let the life-long opinions of our youth be irrevocably formed without showing them the truth. Yet, I know; how that truth is presented is of vital importance.

With all that our children are exposed to through peer-pressure, television, radio, pod-casts, instant text messaging and the Internet it is clear that our message must both be relevant and exciting. The unchanging gospel message will remain just that, unchanged. However, the presentation of that message needs to be both modernized and personally applicable or it will be ignored.

Solomon's Quest™ - The Search For the Ultimate Power, Episode One: "I Have to Save My Mini-bot!" introduces a key character that I trust will be widely accepted, an all-knowing computer. This colossal computer, known as, GOLIATH, examines all the known data and resoundingly proclaims that God is indeed both real and alive. He confirms what was said in Nehemiah. 9:6 "You alone are the LORD. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you."

In a different chapter entitled, "What Happened to My . . . Everything?" an innocent assertion at the dinner table sets in motion a wonderfully simplistic object lesson. Through this benign scenario our readers can clearly see that, according to the Bible, our Creator made everything, including us. This teachable moment establishes the second premise of the book without being preachy or talking down to our audience.

The third premise of Episode One is recognized over several chapters. The action starts off at a company picnic softball game and then moves to a local robot-manufacturing factory. From there the story takes a turn for the worse, later, we add a dangerous fire at a kid-friendly, Family-oriented, restaurant. Once we look at the two scenes in retrospect it is clear that God, indeed, has a plan for our lives. The modern mind-set that God is a vengeful being that watches over us as He waits for the next opportunity to punish us is false and must be stopped. Instead, I think it is important that our youth discover the promise of Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Simply stated; the purpose of the Solomon's Quest series of books is to show the validity of the Word of God and the inherent value of a relationship with His son, Jesus Christ. In so doing we will correct the unacceptable perceptions that assail our children. Simply stated, our goal is to equip children to arrive at the correct answer to the universal question; "Is there a God? And if so; what does He expect of me?"
